Bought a Micro-SIM for Nokia Asha 501

We all come to be familiar with SIM cards for our cellphones and mobile phones. Whenever we replace our cellphones and mobile phones, we just transfer the SIM cards.

Replacing cellphone numbers / SIM cards is quite easy especially that its prices has gone down tremendously caused by the boom in mobile gadgets. Replacing a dual sim cellphone with a dual-sim smartphone appeared to be simply transferring both my existing SIM cards to my new smart gadget .

So, I thought. Until I was required a micro-SIM for my Nokia Asha 501.

I googled the Nokia Asha 501 over the net a number of times. I was overwhelmed with intense fondness of the unit that I failed to remember that it requires a micro-SIM.

The micro-SIM (Subsriber's Identity Module) is an evolution in sim card technology and said to be capable of storing more information compared to the regular sim cards that we came to be familiar with.

As I was so excited to use my new Nokia Asha 501 I bought at Nokia at Cyberzone, Megamall, I immediately went to nearby Globe center to inquire about micro-SIM cards. However, both the guard and the lady I talked to weren't as accommodating as I hoped they'd be. I went next to the Sun Cellular branch but they only offer micro-SIM for postpaid subscribers.

A Globe Tattoo micro-SIM for my Nokia Asha 501

Luckily, Mega-exchange, another store at Cyberzone, was offering Globe micro-SIM for 100 php. Same price if you want your existing regular sim cards cut into micro-SIM size.

I am not comfortable having my existing SIM cards get cut. A bit paranoid of being wrongly cut. So, I decided to just buy a new micro-SIM card, already preparing myself for the inconvenience of notifying family, friends and colleagues about another change in contact numbers.

I did not foresee using new numbers but it looks like I need to buy a Smart micro-SIM, too, just to maximize my Nokia 501.

My Blue Nokia Asha 501

A few days later after my Nokia C2 cellphone showed signs of malfunctioning, I have read about Nokia's latest release of eye-candy smartphones, the Nokia Asha 501 at Yugatech.

The Nokia Asha 501 design really caught my interest. But it took over a month of deciding before I finally own one, one that I consider my very first smartphone.

Owning a smartphone had me thinking about starting a new blog, since this very dear blog covers mainly cellphone. But some frustrations before buying one and the initial disappointments had me thinking twice in abandoning this dear blog of mine in lieu of a new one covering smartphones.

It took a while before the blue Nokia Asha 501 became available as per the representatives from the Nokia Center at Cyberzone, Megamall. So, when it finally became available, I immediately tagged my GF, to use her credit card. Sorry, budget advisors. My urge to get this smartphone is really strong, I had to resort to credit.

However, I was disappointed that it does not come with 40 EA games packaged in other Nokia Asha models. Secondly, I was not able to use it immediately since it requires a microsim.

But these did not dissuade me from pushing through with the purchase.

Anyway, I will be chronicling my experience in using my Nokia Asha 501, both good and bad, here in this blog.
