Perhaps Smart Bro wants to get the attention of prospective subscribers that this early on the year, they offered Free 15 Minutes of Internet surfing to their current subscribers.

Got a text message when I launched my Smart Bro plug-it today.

Unfortunately, I can not verify this promo at the moment on my smart bro prepaid plugit because it is currently enrolled in Smart Bro's unlimited surfing service for five days.

Just for the fun of it, I tried this promo on two cellphones with regular Smart SIMs but unsuccessful.

The response message says;

You are not allowed to avail of this service. You may call Smart Hotline for details, *888 or 888-1111.P1/txt

By this time, I am skeptical about any promo by all telcos in the country. I would really appreciate it if someone who has availed of the Free 15 minutes internet surfing promo from Smart Bro can confirm if this promo is genuine or just simply pure marketing BS.

LoadXtreme Unavailable on December 11

I just read from Vmobile's Facebook page that LoadXtreme will be unavailable on December 11, 2011 from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM due to the power maintenance that will be conducted by Robinsons Galleria Corporate Center Administration.

Also, I came to know about this scheduled service interruption via twitter @loadxtreme

No loading or other transactions over the LoadXtreme system will be possible during that time period. Retailers will surely be angry at the loss of revenue. LoadXtreme members that use it only for personal loading should remember to load their cellphones on Saturday.

It is only now that I learned that Vmobile is working to have its own genset for quite some time now. I just wish that goal can be achieved a little faster.

Again, I reiterate to the management that improving the system is the key for the business to flourish. Real product movement (i.e dispensing of prepaid load by dealers & retailers) will ensure LoadXtreme's existence. It can only be done if the system is regularly upgraded to be able support the growing number of dealers and retailers that dispense load daily.

Though I am no longer active finding retailers or selling prepaid load, I still long for the day when loading via LoadXtreme will be as reliable as traditional loading business.

Maintaining Multiple SIM Cards

Prepaid cellphone users stands to benefit from maintaining multiple SIM cards. SIM cards being cheap these days combined with multi-sim capable cellphone models make it a lot easier.

I, myself, maintain 3 sim cards. My dual-sim Nokia C2-03 contain my default Globe SIM and my old Smart number. I also have a Sun Cellular SIM on the side. Yesterday, I loaded all three of them to keep them all active.

How do you maintain multiple SIM cards? Do you have a cellphone unit for each of them? Do you have a schedule, say every month reloading for them?

My Globe SIM is loaded regularly. For my Smart SIM, I periodically PASALOAD 2 pesos worth of prepaid credits from my Smart Bro plug-it. It is my Sun SIM that seldom get loaded.

Yesterday, I checked the LoadXtreme online loading facility for the lowest amount of credit for Sun Cellular. I decided on Sun Xpressload Budgetxt 5. However, it is only for 10 text/SMS message to other networks. Just to be sure, I again loaded my Sun with 10 Php regular load.

That's extra expense on prepaid credits for me but necessary so I keep all my SIM active and that I can avail of unlimited offers in any of those networks. Also, to be easily contacted by friends from other networks that uses unlimited services.

I remember in the early days of cellphones, a SIM card gets deactivated when left with out prepaid load for 120 days. I am not sure if that is the case till now. But as much as possible, I see to it to reload my secondary SIM cards once every month.

Do you also maintain multiple SIMs? Do you have a cellphone unit for each? Perhaps you use dual-sim cellphones or even a quad-sim one? Kindly share tips in maintaining your multiple sims.

Smart Bro Internet Connection Problem with Error 619

Yesterday, I've encountered my worst Smart Bro Internet Connection problem.

Around 9 am, I loaded my Smart Bro USB modem with 200 peso worth of credits via loadxtreme. Then, I availed of Smart's Unlisurf 200 for 5 days of passable smart bro prepaid internet connection.

But when I tried to connect to the internet, I encountered error 619. I gave up after a few more tries at redialing to connect, thinking it would only be temporary and proceeded with other things to do.

Only to find out that Smart Bro and Error 619 would frustrate me the whole day.

Internet connection is very important for me because I send my job applications online plus I'm blogging to make some money online.

So, you can imagine my frustration when this error persisted before I took my lunch and for the rest of the afternoon.

Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be
established so the port used for this connection was closed.

Thinking that my Smart Bro wireless USB might be the problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled the application. Then, I used my antivirus software and ran a full system scan.

On a desperate attempt to try other things, I connected my Smart Bro USB modem interchangeably among my netbook's other USB ports. Also, I added some prepaid load. All to no to avail.

Late yesterday evening, I decided to go to the nearest internet cafe. I accessed my registered Smart Bro account and filled out the Request Technical Support form where I was promised to be contacted within 24 hours.

Early this morning, I received the following SMS message from sender. - Cust.Care:

Good day. Regarding your Smart Bro prepaid account. Adjustment has already been done on your account, kindly monitor your connection. If you need further assistance, pls call *1888 using a Smart cellphone or 6727277 (Metro Manila) or 1-800-106727277 thru a PLDT landline w/ NDD. Thank you.

True enough, I was finally able to connect. And when I checked my balance, my Smart Bro's prepaid credit remained the same and my UNLISURF subscription was adjusted to last until 3 PM of July24. Thankfully, I no longer need to contact the smart bro customer service hotline.

To be fair with Smart Bro and its customer care department; the action, the sms message and the adjustment made for my concern deserve to be mentioned here.

[I now have a theory that the Request Technical Support Form works better than the Smart Web Connect Aftersales Requests Form I used for my Smart Rewards complaint.]

This experience has convinced me that my Smart Bro prepaid's reliability will not be suitable for any work-at-home internet connection requirement.

Smart Lahatxt Unli 25, Counters Globe's SUPERUNLIALLTXT

I learned about Smart's Lahatxt Unli 25 searching online, first via tanggera.com.

Searching further, interaksyon.com provided more details about Smart's counter to Globe's Superunlialltxt.

It figures. Interaksyon.com is a website of TV channel 5 which is now owned by Manny Pangilinan, owner of Smart Communications.

Globe is now offering a service that allows its prepaid subscribers to text anyone from any mobile network unlimitedly via SUPERUNLIALLTXT.

I can text anyone as long as I like for a day and with only 25 pesos? Every text scammers' wildest dream!

A promo text about it greeted me this morning. Unfortunately, I have not enough prepaid load at the moment to test it out.

Globe sent me this text message coming from 4438:

MyRewardsMyGlobe: Sa P25 load, may earned points ka, super pwede mo pang ipambili ng unlimited texts to all networks plus 1 hour mobile internet sa bagong GLOBE SUPERUNLIALLTXT. To register, txt UALL25 to 8888. Sakto lang sa bulsa, may points ka pa!

Naturally, I searched online for this. A few blogs [ here & here ] have already written about this latest prepaid product offering since yesterday but (again) it is not yet on Globe's website. Sending INFO to 8888 for more details proved to be no dice, too!

SUPERUNLIALLTXT offers unlimited texts/SMS messages to ALL NETWORKS good for 24 hours (1 Day) for only 25 pesos. No end of promo date was mentioned.

Sounds like a fair deal if you really need to be texting a lot on a given day. Of course, only if Globe system can support on a lot (if not all) subscribers availing this prepaid product/service simultaneously.

The one-hour mobile internet comes to me as a mere bonus. Could anyone please share their experience with Globe's mobile internet connection?

I once tried Globe's prepaid Tattoo but found Smart Bro & Sun somehow more passable in terms of speed in my area.

Apparently, Smart too has an unlimited-texts-to-all-networks product too. Found that here.

Smart Customer Care Responds to My SMART REWARDS concern

I received an e-mail today from SMART Customer Care in reply to my concern with Smart Rewards item unredemption.

The good thing, at least, is that Smart appears to have personnel that looks in customer complaints.

But on the other hand, an email alone - stating that the concern raised is being looked into, coupled with a service reference number - does not erase the doubts on my mind regarding the reliability of the Smart Rewards program to reward subscribers.

Here is the email in full that I received from Smart Customer Care.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for seeking assistance from us.

Crediting of the 90 minutes free internet surfing time is within 48
hours from the time of successful redemption. We have also sought the
assistance of our support group for further checking of your SMART
Rewards concern. Please take note of Service Request (SR) number
350174146 as reference to the report made. Rest assured that this will
be looked into and feedback will be provided once available.

Through this response, it seems fair to give Smart Rewards the (positive) benefit of doubt... that eventually, the program can really deliver on its promise of rewarding loyal subscribers.

But I wouldn't be stressing myself further about the immediate resolution of my concern. I deem it enough that I inform SMART about the concern responsibly and shared the experience in this blog.

I wish that visitors of this blog who are also SMART subscribers promptly received the rewards that they rightfully deserve for continuing to reload and use Smart services.

SMART REWARDS Program Turned Out Unrewarding To Me

Looking for info about Smart's PasaLoad Promo, got me interested with Smart Rewards.

As it turned out, my Smart Bro prepaid plug-it has already accumulated over 40, 000 points for redemption.

Unfortunately for me, redeeming items out of the Smart Rewards program proved to be unrewarding.

Or that was just my luck?

It was nice to know that Smart has a program that rewards subscribers for continuously reloading and using their service. Getting 5 reward points for every P1.00 worth of transaction seems like a great deal.

I load my Smart Bro 200 pesos almost weekly to avail of UNLISURF for 5 days. That alone means 1,000 reward points. I have been using Smart Bro prepaid plugit for over eight months but I'm still surprised to have accumulated over 40, 000 points.

It was then that I decided to redeem one of the items the program offers - the 90 minutes Smart Bro Internet surfing time worth 7, 500 points. So, sometime in July 2, I actually did redeem the said item. And here is the corresponding notification message after doing so.

You redeemed 7,500 rewards points. Your account will be credited with P30.00 Smart Bro Load within 48 hours. Being Smart has its rewards!

RN:4028070

July 4 came and my account hasn't received the P30.00 load promised even though 7,500 was deducted from my reward points. So, I decided to repeat the redemption process. (RN:4030026)

And at the same, sent a complain via Smart Web Connect Aftersales Requests Form which responded with this notification message:

Your Aftersales Request Form has been submitted. Valid request will be attended to within 24-48 hours. Thank you for using Web Connect.

I believe that requesting action for unreceived rewards that were promised is valid enough. But until now, there isn't a response from Smart.

From that experience, Smart Rewards proved to be unrewarding to me. In that regard, Globe Rewards program is slightly better since I was able to redeem its free UNLI80 item a few times.

Just to keep my old Smart SIM active, I loaded it via Smart's PasaLoad out of my Smart Bro plug-it prepaid load.

Aside from the customary confirmation reply text, there was an additional text message sent - about a promo which encourages Smart subscribers to continue using the PasaLoad service for a chance to win Php 30,000 weekly.

But how come I can not find this Smart PasaLoad promo on its website?

This is the customary confirmation text after transferring prepaid credits via Smart PasaLoad:

This is the additional message sent.

I've checked Smart's Homepage, promo page, Smart Gold PasaLoad page and Smart Buddy Load page moments ago but details about this promo can't be found from those pages. Either the details are buried deeper into the website or Smart doesn't have dedicated personnel to update its website.

But the text message was clearly from PasaLoad.

I can't understand why a promo such as this one be made low-key or hush-hushed? Smart tend to earn from the Php 1.00 charge per PasaLoad transaction, right?

Surprisingly, I read more about the promo from this page. WARNING: Join at your own risk.

So, I'm assuming that this promo will be like Globe's promo some months ago. No official info from the website. No announcement of the winners because it is confidential.

As a subscriber being sent text messages such as like that, I feel that I deserve some form of transparency or disclosure if mobile telcos are really rewarding the subscribers who join those promos.

What do you think about promos from mobile telcos announced only over SMS like this Smart PasaLoad promo?

Sun Call & Text Combos Seems A Good Reason to Have a Sun Cellular SIM, Plus seeing Ms. Maja Salvador :)

Sun Call & Text Combos through Maja Salvador's hotness made me have second thoughts on what should be my 2nd SIM card when I finally buy a Nokia C2-00.

Last time, I went to a Nokia store, the Nokia C2-00 is still at "Coming Soon" status.

Seeing Maja and the Sun Cellular ad is good timing before I finally get my hands on that Nokia handset.

Sun Call & Text Combos looks enticing to me because the text-to-other networks inclusive of these combos appear to render sun-to-sun calls & texts to be free of charge.

Let's take Sun's Php 30 Call & Text Combo for example. The combo includes:

40 minutes of Sun-to-Sun calls
120 Sun-to-Sun texts
40 Texts to other networks

All of which will be valid for 3 days just by texting CTC30 to 247.

As a non-Sun user, I can still text my family/friends who are mostly non-Sun users for only 30 pesos, forty times. In that sense, sun-to-sun calls & texts seemed just like freebies.

I am not updated with the PLDT-Digitel team up (vis-a-vis Smart-Sun). But the proposition of enjoying unlimited calls and texts over Sun, Smart, TNT and Red mobile is a very interesting thought, much to the apprehension of Globe and anti-monopoly advocates.

But the biggest convincing factor for me using a SUN sim is when dispensing/selling prepaid load using one would be efficient and fast. Also, if SUN prepaid load products will be made permanently available on the LoadXtreme platform.

If that happens, I'd surely be imagining about Ms. Salvador as I load my cellphone with Sun Call & Text combo products.

Finding My Old Smart SIM Card For My Upcoming Nokia C2-00

I'm so hopeful of owning a Nokia C2-00 dual sim phone next month. Together with my Globe sim, I intend to use a Smart SIM on the other slot. It is easy to get a new Smart sim these days but I thought my old Smart sim would do just fine.

That is, if I find it and if my old Smart sim is still active.

I stopped using my old Smart sim when my cherry mobile C55 cellphone gave up on me early this year and forgot about it until today. Fortunately, I was able to find my C55 among my clutter and the Smart sim inside it.

I can't remember when I last loaded it. So, you can imagine my great relief to see the Smart Gold logo when I inserted it to my current cellphone - Nokia 1110.

I feel that my old Smart sim will help me be contacted by long lost friends/colleagues and former prepaid loading associates.

When I finally use that Nokia C2-00, I feel that I'm giving my friends more ways to reach me using cellphones promos they find cheaper from either Globe and Smart.

A dual sim phone is greatly advantageous for my loading business as I also offer pasaload (for Smart) subscribers and share-a-load for (Globe subscribers). Using both Smart and Globe also help this blog as I can share first-hand experience using both.

There are other advantages in using a dual sim phone as enumerated by Nokia. And today, cellphone users have a lot of choices for dual sim brands. I just really like Nokia because all my Nokia phones lasted long enough. And I expect the Nokia C2-00 to be also that durable.

My Globe and Smart sim cards are eagerly waiting their next home, the Nokia C2-00 Dual SIM phone.

Excessive Cellphone Use Harm Humans, Brain? I guess more to our wallets.

I came across an article from gmanews.tv about recent studies whose findings revealed that heavy exposure to radiation from cellphones and cell sites can lead to memory defects, brain damage and pregnancy complications.

I adhere to the Filipino adage that everything excessive isn't good. (Loose English translation of "lahat ng sobra masama". I don't see anything wrong if we use our cellphones moderately, not just because of health considerations but also of financial and environmental concerns.

Harmful effects of cellphone use has long been debated by scientists and up to now, there is still no conclusive evidence of cellphone harmful effects. The findings of the study cited in the article were against mice, rats and rabbits. I would argue that the human body and human brain is made more special, complex and may respond differently.

In one of the studies, mice exposed to two hours per day of radio frequency emissions from a transmitting cellphone were less able to to learn and rerun mazes, suggesting that cellphone radiation might impair spatial memory -- the kind of recall that helps us navigate from place to place.

I just talked with my GF moments ago for about 3 minutes and I immediately forgot what I was about to do prior to her call. I used my cellphone more for texting and other functions like games, alarm clock and calculator. If anything, I risk finger strain and arthritis on my hands at the worst.

The ubiquitous use of cellphone by Filipinos and the world in general is just about four decades. I think it would require a longer time frame to study the significant effects of cellphones to humans.

But I would advocate moderation in its use not only because of health concerns. Excessive use of cellphones thru calling is not economical (unless unlimited service is availed). Granted that cellphones are designed for longer talk time, heavy use in calls will accelerate the discharge of its battery. To recharge a cellphone requires energy and additional cost in power.

Also since the study points out possible harmful effects on the brain, it make sense for heavy cellphone users to place their cellphones as far away as possible. Headsets and hand's free gadgets can help excessive cellphone users continue with the call but lessening their exposure.

How long do you celebabad with your cellphones? Oh, well. Use your cellphone excessively at your own ~~wallet's~~ risk.

Nokia C2-00 Dual Sim Phone - My Highs & Lows

In a matter of 2 days, I've felt high and low about a cellphone model I strongly liked and wanted, the Nokia C2-00 dual sim phone.

When yugatech wondered yesterday, if the Nokia C2-00 phone will ever be released in the Philippines, I've sense that my chances of having one has become more grim.

But the Nokia Blog, buoyed my spirits today. One of those Nokia phone models could still find its way to my hands.

I first learned about the Nokia C2-00 dual sim phone model from yugatech around June last year. About that time, my dual sim phone Cherry Mobile C55, was starting to show some wear and tear, just 3 months since I bought it. And with the service center so out of my usual route, I forego availing the service warranty. I thought why bother, I'm going to buy a new dual sim phone, anyway - assuming that the Nokia C2-00 will be released in September 2010. I can even wait till December.

Yesterday, yugatech wondered why the Nokia unit is taking so long to be released here, too. And with that, I have started to accept that Nokia wouldn't release the cellphone unit here. Perhaps Nokia saw that the market for dual sim phones are already saturated by MyPhone, Cherry Mobile, Torque, Firefly and a lot of other makers from China.

But a post from the Nokia blog made my day today and gave me some hope of owning a Nokia C2-00.

The Nokia X1-01 and Nokia C2-00 will ship this quarter in India, China, South-East Asia/Pacific region, Middle East and Africa, Eurasia and Brazil. Before local taxes or subsidies, the X1-01 will cost €34 while the C2-00 will cost €45.

No SMS Way to Check UNLISURF Status

I wish that SMART Bro would come up with a way to check the status of your UNLISURF subscription via SMS or Text Message.

Early this morning, I found out that all text messages in the inbox of my prepaid SMART Bro plugit is gone. And along with those message, is my registration notification for UNLISURF. I wanted to know the specific time my UNLISURF subscription will expire that I spent some time finding a way to check my UNLISURF status via SMS/Text Message.

I failed to find it. Luckily, my UNLISURF subscription lasted enough to be able to check it online.

I remembered that today that my unlisurf will expire today but I wanted to know the specific time.

So, I searched the internet on how to check your UNLISURF status via SMS. But so far, found none. I even resorted to guessing. Like sending "STATUS" or "UNLISURF STATUS" and tried sending it 2200. But it proved to be unsuccessful and I was charged a peso for each of that transaction attempt.

Also, I tried registering to UNLISURF again, hoping that the SMART Bro system would respond that my number is still registered until a certain specific time. Yes, SMART Bro system replied that but did not specified until when. Another transaction charged.

Well, there was no choice for me but to go http://smart.com.ph/connect/ . Luckily, my account can still access the internet via UNLISURF, enough for me to be able to register my smart bro, verify via SMS, verify the e-mail I used to register.

Finally, I found out that I only have 30 minutes left out of my UNLISURF subscription. Hopefully, enough to post this entry.

In this advance technology era, it seems so easy for SMART Bro to program keywords and hotline numbers to give its prepaid broadband subscribers a way to check their prepaid subscription via SMS/ Text messages.

Or maybe I just missed it. I'm far from the know-it-all tech guy. Feel free to point out to me how.

But if I'm correct, I hope that someone from SMART Bro get to read this and do so.

My Mother's Day Text Message Got Published on Manila Bulletin

I joined Manila Bulletin's MomNotes offering and took my chance. I'm really glad that the simple risk paid off.

To all the other mothers out there;

Happy Mother's Day and thank you for all the love, care, sacrifice, teachings and all the other things you've given for your children's sake.

More than the Pacquiao vs Mosley fight, I was excited to check that broadsheet first thing on the day. Initial scanning indicated that the SMS I submitted was picked.

Then, I started reading the message published from the start, and it was only then that I saw my message to my Nanay on page SS-10. When I called her up later, I had an extra thing to share to her.

Another Reason Globe Sucks

Globe rewards program sucks. They recently changed the items you can redeem. And the changes do not reflect on its website.

Case in point: Unlimited text 20, which if you try to redeem [REDEEM UNLI20], you'll receive a text reply that it is an invalid keyword.

But Globe gets away with it because of an escape clause "Rewards are subject to availability and may change without prior notice."

Here's what I did. I sent STOP to 4438. I've had enough of these Globe promos.

If you already did that earlier, better for you. You may still believe that Globe wants to reward its subscriber. I wish you'd be luckier than me.

When I say promos, I meant those e-raffles and rewards. And not prepaid services/products offered in "promo" periods.

My Nokia 1112 is Indestructible

My cellphone - a Nokia 1112 fell to the floor once again today. A little higher than the usual height I normally pushed it. Hehehe!

After putting together its casing, I sighed a huge relief after it turned on. Thank goodness! I still have a working cellphone.

Sorry, I am a pro-Nokia cellphone guy. I just like to trumpet the idea that old Nokia cellphone models are built to last. One even survived getting buried.

Here's an episode of the US TV Sitcom, Scrubs.

Around 5:12 in the video, the main character attempts to destroy his pal's phone but the phone survived the attempt and caller voice stills get through. The phone is not a Nokia, but that's basically what I think of my cellphone.

Still on the video, this scrubs clothing cast of a tv show isn't that funny enough for me. The coming Sunday is Mother's Day. I'm sure each of us already have plans on how to greet our respective moms or how to make the day extra special for her.

I think it would be awesome if my Nanay* would read my message on a newspaper of wide circulation.

Facebook Text Messages has empowered older cellphone models such as the one I am currently using - Nokia 1112 - to be able to participate in the leading online social network - Facebook.

Just like the owners of iPhones, Android phones, Blackberry phones and other smartphones, old cellphone model users like me can now update our FB friends of what's happening with us or what's our current preoccupation. And it also allows us to be notified about friend requests, messages, tagged photos and the like.

This came about when the reply text to my balance inquiry included the information about Facebook updates via SMS.

I think that there is still a segment of cellphone users using old models - and at the same time - active with Facebook. Although most mobile phone models nowadays comes with internet capabilities and other apps for social networking, a few others may still be stuck with old phones because it is very reliable or because of some sentimental reasons.

If you are like and want to be in the loop among your FB friends, here's how you can use Facebook Text Message:

To start using Facebook Mobile, send F to 2933 for free. You will receive a confirmation code which you need to enter to your facebook mobile account settings.

SMS notifications are free, and update is P1/txt. You may also subscribre to 10 FB updates for only P5/day. Just text ON FB to 2933 after successfully subscribing to FB mobile.

In my case, there were some delay for my cellphone number to be registered with my Facebook account. But I'm glad it's done.

Here's my first ever update on my Facebook status from my Nokia 1112.

After the registration, one has the option to choose which notification he/she will receive via text/SMS from Facebook. It can also be set so that the notifications will only be from friends. I hope that this service will be extended longer that 07/10/2011.

Smart's latest offering - Smart Buddy LAHATxt Combo - had me seriously considering ditching my Globe sim and switching to Smart.

More than my recent personal frustration with Globe, Smart's LAHATxt 30 Combo seemed just the right mobile product for my daily and monthly cellphone consumption.

Now, at least, I regret not exerting an effort to get my busted Cherry Mobile C55 cellphone get repaired.

Smart's LAHATxt 30 Combo allows its prepaid subscribers 250 text messages to all mobile networks and 20 minutes of Smart-to-Smart calls for 2 days for only Php 30.

To avail of LAHATxt 30 Combo, just key-in L30 and send it to 2266.

You can further break that down to 15 per day or 450 a month. That is, more or less, my average monthly prepaid expense.

LAHATxt 20 Combo is also available. It offers 150 text messages to all mobile networks and 10 minutes of Smart-to-Smart calls for 1 day for Php 20.

To avail of LAHATxt 20 Combo, just key-in L20 and send it to 2266.

Subscribers must maintain Php 1.00 prepaid cellphone load to continue to enjoy this product/service. Subscribers who inquire for their prepaid load balance will also be notified of the expiration of their LAHATXT Combo package.

What makes me hesitant to switch to Smart is that this LAHATxt Combo packages are only offered until June 30, 2011. Plus the fact that most of my contacts are using Globe sims.

It seems that Globe offers prepaid service exclusive to a certain region. Its SUPERLAHAT20 is available only in DAVAO.

With SUPERLAHAT20, Globe prepaid subscribers in Davao can enjoy unlimited text and 100 call minutes to Globe?TM subscrbers, 1 Hour mobile internet & 5 international texts for a day for only 20 pesos.

They just need to key in SUPERLAHAT20 in their cellphones and then send it to 8888. A 1 Peso load balance must be maintaine to continue enjoying the service.

After reading a newspaper that mentioned SUPERLAHAT20. I, then, immediately texted 8888 with SUPERLAHAT INFO. That is how I came to know this details.

No duration of the service was indicated. As far as I understand it, you must be using your cellphone in Davao to avail and enjoy this service.

This is the last time I would talk about Globe's Be a Winner this Summer! promo.

And perhaps for that matter, any other Globe promo in the future.

Because I blogged about this cellphone promo, I feel compelled to do the following things.

First, I apologize to fellow Globe prepaid subscribers who registered for the promo because of the blog post I've written even though I explicitly wrote that joining will be at your own risk. And to inform you that I sent an e-mail complaint to Globe and filed a formal complaint about the matter in DTI NCR website.

I hope that I do get a response/action from Globe or from DTI. If my efforts proved to be futile, I vow never to write about any Globe Promo in the future.

There were many angry comments I got. But most of them are anonymous. For those who feel that Globe misled its subscribers with false promotions, you can also do what I did. If not, just keep your "Globe Sucks!" comment out of my blog.

My e-mail to Globe:

I am one of your prepaid subscribers.

Last March 16, 2011, I received a text message from 8888 about a certain promo of your company called "Be a Winner this Summer" Promo.

The promo says that subscribers like me get e-raffle coupons every time we reload at least 40 pesos on prepaid credits from GMA loading stations. The same text message says that I already have 10 e-raffle coupons.

Given that it was from 8888 and the registration is free, I registered for the promo despite the fact that the promo can not be found at your website. Also, I wrote about it my blog. In the succeeding days, I again received a text message informing me of the e-raffle coupons that I earned.

The raffle draw for the promo was scheduled on April 15, 2011. But until now, there is no mention about the promo or the raffle draw or the winners on Globe's website.

I am not concerned about winning. I am concerned about Globe's misinformation or downright attempt to fool its subscriber of a promo that now appears to be non-existent.

While I did not reload on prepaid credits specifically to join the promo, there may be other subscribers who did so, in the hope of increasing their chances.

I demand an official statement about the promo, the raffle draw and, of course, the winners.

Also, I have sent a complaint to DTI about the matter.

Complaint I sent to DTI NCR:

In March 16, 2011, I received a text message from 8888 (Globe Telecom's number) about their "Be a Winner this Summer" Promo.

Job Application via SMS

Looking for a regular job has been taking a big chunk of my time these past few days. I even tried job application via SMS.

While I never got a confirmation text message, much less a call from that employer, I welcome the additional mean to reach prospective employers through my cellphone.

Have you tried and successfully landed a job by sending your application via SMS?

SMS or Text Messaging has indeed transformed a huge part of our lives.

Hiring managers/departments is now utilizing that technology to lure job seekers into their companies. When you browse classified ad section of local broadsheets these days, there are companies that include a SMS syntax by which you can inform them of your interest of applying.

This is totally convenient on the part of jobseekers like me. A few strokes on my cellphone's keypad can send my interest across to a prospective employer/company. Much savings too, in money and time as compared to personally submitting your application and not get interviewed right away. Among the local companies that I noticed were TeleTech, Sitel and Citigroup Business Process Solutions.

As to the success of getting the position, that's a different matter altogether. If I do get a call for interview after sending an application via text, that's a very good and cost-effective use of the technology.

I still do walk-ins, e-mail submissions. But job application via SMS is a welcome means to get a job.

Cellphone Battery Long Life

I participated in the recent Nokia Poll asking the basic cellphone users on the features they like the most.

What stood out is that cellphone users want cellphone battery long life feature.

The demographics per country wasn't divulge, but I wouldn't be surprised if most Filipino cellphone users also desire that basic feature. Almost every one I know that uses a cellphone decries being low bat or run out of battery.

On the average, I charge my basic cellphone after every 2-3 days. That is because I rarely call and seldom receives one. And yet, I still want my interaction with my phone charger to be lessened.

Promo is from March 15 to June 12, 2011.

Another related promo is the Buy 3, Get 1 Free promo on Globe Tattoo Stick. Basically, the prize goes down to Php 933.75. This promo is from March 13, 2011 to April 13, 2011.

Better yet, verify with Globe business centers if you are interested to get one.

If I don't already have my Smart Bro broadband plug-it, I would definitely try Globe's Tattoo broadband stick. The globe signal in my home area is strong. And if the service would proved to be bad, I can just enjoy those 2000 text as most of my contacts are using Globe sims.

It was only yesterday that I read about GMAnews.tv's article about the current "Unli" wars between Smart & Globe that I only learned the Globe's SUPERUNLI is back.

Globe's SUPERUNLI promo offers its subscribers unlimited call and texting Globe to Globe and Globe to TM, either for a day or for 7 days.

So, I quickly used one of Globe's HELP codes to check. And yes... Globe's SUPERUNLI is available until March 31, 2011.

For prepaid subscribers:

Text SUPER25 to 8888 to enjoy one day unlimited call and texting to Globe & TM subscribers for only Php 25. Php 1 peso maintaining prepaid load balance required.
Text SUPER150 to 8888 to enjoy the unli call & text promo for 7 days.
Text SUPER STATUS to 8888 check your CP's status with regard to service.
Text SUPER STOP to 8888 to end or stop the service.

For Postpaid Subscribers: Text MYSUPERUNLI ON to 8888. This costs Php 599/30 days. Promos is only until March 31, 2011.

A notification will be received if your phone is registered with this Globe service or not. No prefix is needed to use the promo for unlimited calls.

I tried availing this service before but had no luck. I guess you need super unlimited patience to compete with other Globe/TM subscribers get your SUPERUNLI request be processed by Globe.

An unexpected SMS/text message from Globe's hotline 8888 informed me of its current offering - Globe's Be a Winner this Summer! Promo.

Apparently, the slight increase in reloading my prepaid cellphone the past week or so earned me 10 e-raffle coupons for the said promo, the text message says.

However, I couldn't find this promo at Globe's website...

Hmmm... I have my doubts but the sucker in me for freebies & raffle prizes led me to register. I am justifying that because the text message came from 8888. So, if you're like me in that way, you can register by texting:

GMARAFFLE REG FIRST NAME LASTNAME, ADDRESS, BDAY, GENDER

to 8888.

The text said registration is free. I inquired my prepaid load balance before and after registering. So, in that respect, I can say that it is free.

Again, this promo, is not yet confirmed. Only do join/register, at your own risk.

As I understand it, Globe's Be a Winner this Summer promo gives Globe's prepaid subscribers e-raffle coupons every time a minimum of Php 40 credits is loaded to their phones. [Php 20 for TM subscribers.]

Prizes in the promo include a Samsung LCD TV, an iPod NANO and a Samsung Champ. Raffle draw is on April 15, 2011. Promo is open to all GMA loading outlets. I think that means Greater Manila Area. Per DTI-NCR permit no. 1941 Series of 2011

Forwarded SMS/Text Messages Should be Spread Responsibly

Yesterdays, iresponsible forwarded SMS/text messages is one of the downside of cellphone technology, SMS technology and even, unlimited texting promos.

In the aftermath of the explosion of a nuclear reactor in quake-hit Japan, SMS text messages floated around about a potential acid rain etc. I received that forwarded text message from no less than my girlfriend.

I immediately admonished her to stop forwarding messages like that and just wait for official statements either from the news on TV or via online.

As I admonished her, I am requesting everyone who reads this to forward SMS/text messages responsibly.

Forwarding SMS/text messages of that nature was insensitive, iresponsible, unhelpful and a total waste of time, money and resources.

I do forward messages too. But I go by the following personal guidelines:

If it is an important announcement, say in our alumni org.
If it is funny and I like others to smile too from it.
If it is inspiring, especially to those people I knew who needs a pick-me-up

And I often forward to just specific person. Not everyone in my phonebook. Whenever I received a text message that doesn't fit any of those guidelines, I do not forward it. Oftentimes, the message will be deleted immediately as my CP has limited message saving capacity

I hope that other cellphone users be responsible too when forwarding SMS or text messages even if you are using unlimited services/promos.

If the Nokia E-Cu can really be charged by any heat source, then a hot ear from hours of cellphone talk can do the trick! Or perhaps from an angry parent's head?

I can't fathom why Nokia doesn't have current plans to develop this phone concept.

Prepaid Fuel?

GMAnews.tv reported that Seaoil Philippines Inc. is bringing back its prepaid fuel card that locks gasoline price at Php 52 per liter for two months.

Seaoil's Price Lock Prepaid Fuel Card cost Php 1, 040 - good for 20 liters. The card may only be used in Metro Manila from March 9 - May 15.

The said prepaid fuel card protects motorists from the frequent increase in petroleum fuel prices. In the event of fuel price roll back, those who bought the card will get the cash amount of the prepaid card.

Reports did not say, however, how the prepaid fuel card works. Or maybe it is just a one time used prepaid card.

Hopefully, other companies will emulate Seaoil and that LoadXtreme will also offer such prepaid fuel cards in the future.

Talk 'N Text Panalo Phone: Cheapest Cellphone in PHL Today

Yugatech featured what would be the cheapest cellphone in the Philippines, the Talk 'N Text Panalo Phone. A unit of the Panalo Phone was reported to be priced at only Php 499.

Yugatech writes, "The handsets are simple candybar phones which were co-branded with Cherry Mobile and ZTE. The phones are also locked to the TNT network and it’s highly likely the telco is subsidizing for the cost of the handset."

If it will distributed direct to homes, it may be a good time to start a database of prepaid cellphone subscribers.

Filipinos love gadgets moreso if it comes cheap such as this TNT's Panalo Phone. And if this concept from TNT will succeed, other telcos will surely follow. That would indeed be great for communications all over the country.

On the business side, more demand for cellphone units will be good for manufacturing. More cellphones units will also mean more demand for prepaid load.

Yugatech further writes that the Panalo Phone will be distributed via direct-to-home approach. Perhaps distributing this cheap phone may be a good time to start the registration of prepaid cellphone users.

The affordability of the Panalo Phone can also be taken advantage of crooks who utilize cellphones in their illegal activities. I think a registration of some sort can make these unscrupulous people think twice before using any cheap cellphone to commit a crime. Because there is a possibility that the cellphone can be linked to them.

A new cellphone was launched today by Nokia, the Nokia X1-00. This latest cellphone from Nokia, I'm sure will be music to ears of all audio-slaved cellphone users out there.

LoadXtreme Error Notification - Stale Commands

I was trying to load my Smart Bro plugit via LoadXtreme a little while ago.

I composed the usual command syntax and send it to my assigned gateway.

However, it took some time more than the usual, before I finally received this LoadXtreme error notification about stale commands.

LX: LOAD command for 09996134182 sent on 03/05/2011 12:49:01 ignored as it was rcvd on 03/05/2011 13:25:12 due to telco congestion. Your Balance is XX.XX

The LoadXtreme system automatically rejects any SMS command received beyond thirty (30) minutes from the time it was sent. This system feature protects a dealer/retailer from potential loss when delivery of the SMS command suffers delay due to telco congestion.

The system then sends a notification just like the one above informing a dealer/retailer why the load did not push thru and that their loadwallet was not deducted.

Good thing, this happened to me and not with a customer.

I was searching the seemingly redesigned Globe Telecoms website for info about Globe Tattoo Super Stick when I chanced upon their SuperFree Weekends Promo.

Globe Prepaid Superfree Weekends rewards subscribers with FREE 200 text/SMS to ALL NETWORKS and One (1) Hour free cellphone internet from Saturday to Sunday when they load at least Php 199 pesos from Monday to Fridays.

Subscribers who reaches at least Php 199 worth of prepaid load will get a confirmation message. To avail of the promo, they only need to text SUPERFREE to 8888. Prepaid loads obtained by the Share-A-Load of Globe will not count. Promo is extended until April 16, 2011.

I wonder what product is Smart Communications offering to match this one by Globe. Anyway, I am hoping that by year's end, the prices would drop for me to afford the prepaid Globe MyFi or the post-paid Globe Tattoo Super Stick.

Except for the unlimited text to Smart/TNT?Red subscribers, I can't figure out how this promo can be used for spamming. Anyway, it is better to be cautious not to just give your Smart buddy number to anyone, and not give those of your friends nos to anyone without their consent. A little paranoid may be, but such precaution is needed if you don't want receiving unsolicited text ads or worse text scams.

Here's another smartload product I heard over my favorite radio program, Smart Buddy's Flexi 15.

Smart Flexi 15 allows its subscribers to send text messages to all local networks for only Php 0.50 per text or to call fellow Smart subscribers, Talk 'N Text or Red Mobile Subscribers for only Php 0.50 per minute.

This prepaid product from Smart really gives their prepaid subscribers affordable flexibility in communicating with other people.

To avail of the service, Smart subscribers should have a smart load worth at least 15 pesos. They simply to need to register to enjoy the service by sending FLEXI15 to 6415. A Php 1.00 balance is required for you to make a call under this service.

The service is good for one day so that may mean, 30 text to any local network or 3o minutes of call time to fellow smart or tnt/red mobile subscriber.

To make calls to Smart/TNT/Red Mobile subscribers at the discounted call rate, one has to dial the prefix *6415 + 11-Digit number they are calling. Example: *641509191234567

If you forget to do this, calls will be charged with the regular rate. Calls will be charged on a per minute basis. Meaning, calls made 59 secs or less will still be charged Php 0.50 under this service.

Heard over the radio as I was listening to RX this morning about Red Mobile's Unli Ocho.

Red Mobile Unli Ocho (8) is the network's unlimited call and text service promo that allows its subscribers unlimited texting and calling among themselves in one day for only 8 pesos.

To avail of Red Mobile's Unli Ocho, subscribers need to have enough load and then text the keyword CTU8 to 9949.

This I think is the lowest unlimited call and text promo nowadays. I bet red mobile subscribers can call till their ears turn red or send text messages till their fingers go red.

I ended up researching and collating the assigned mobile/cellular network codes in the Philippines.

I collated these assigned cellular network codes to serve as my personal reference. In the past, I get confused which product to dispense because I do not know all of these cellular network code assignments.

Globe Telecoms Has 26.5 Million Mobile Subscribers at the end of 2010

At the end of 2010, Globe Telecoms has a mobile subscriber base of about 26.5 million.

In a report, Globe telecoms has said that it closed 2010 with 13.8 million Globe prepaid subscribers and 11.8 million Touch Mobile subsribers.

Globe Postpaid subscribers amount to just 1.1 million subscribers. All in all that's 26.5 million mobile subsribers for Globe at the end of 2010.

Here's hoping that Globe upgraded its system and offer us, their prepaid subscribers better service, better prepaid products and better prepaid promos this 2011.

Google now offers free calls to the U.S. and Canada and very low call rates to other countries abroad throughout 2011 via Gmail.

That is if you hadn't already know.

It is only now that I took a closer look about this Google service after seeing a comment notification to my other blog today, sort of an advertisement.

So this is what a good friend has been yapping about a few days back.

First, you need a gmail account. And then, you need to install a plug-in. Of course, your PC should have a headset or earphone + mic. This won't be a problem with smartphones like Nokia E7 capable of accessing gmail.

Google does not allow emergency calls though. And the free calls to US & Canada may only be for 2011. Here's the complete legal notice from Google for this service.

I read from the Nokia official blog that they are shipping the latest Nokia Smartphone, the Nokia Smartphone E7, starting today. As big Nokia mobile phone fan, I can't help but drool.

My favorite mobile/tech/gadget blog, Yugatech, said that the Nokia E7 is the first Nokia smartphone that has a huge touch screen.

Nokia, is probably succumbing to Apple/Google smartphone design that offers lots of touchscreen real estate. Read Yugatech's take about this Nokia smartphone here.

Apparently, bad people are scamming Nokia users abroad. The official Nokia Blog just posted a warning about the Nokia Lottery Scam.

The scammers are sending e-mails or SMS, informing prospective victims that they won a big amount money in a lottery which is of course false.

To collect your winnings, you will be asked to send some fee or bank information.

It is the international version of the Phil. Charity Foundation Text Scam. And even though Nokia has been warning about it since 2009, scammers still persists in victimizing people.

Here's a sample e-mail of the Nokia Lottery Scam.

Don't ever respond to any e-mail or SMS informing you of such. Keep in mind that you will not be able to win a contest you never joined.

And also spread this news to every cellphone user you know. Knowing is winning half the battle against the Nokia Lottery Scam and these scammers.

We all heard of cellphones getting wet either by the owners negligence or some other persons negligence.

Here's a great tip worth trying in case your cellphone got wet accidentally.

Apparently, silica gel packets or uncooked rice can sip the water or liquid absorbed by your cellphone. See, now there's a good reason to collect a few of those silica gels we usually get when we buy new items.

I was looking forward to getting online the whole weekend (Sundays & Mondays for me).

Unfortunately, Smart Bro's UNLISURF for Smart Bro prepaid broadband users like me is temporarily not available.

I have sent the service keywords at least 8 times, typing UNLISURF 100, UNLISURF 50 and even UNLISURF 200 or their lower-cased equivalents & sending to 2200 but to no avail.

LoadXtreme's customer service hotline number is 311-3000.

I had no choice but to seek them twice this week with regards to my load replenishment and their online loading facility glitch.

Actually, this was a rarity for me since LoadXtreme resumed operation under Vmobile.

The first was concerning loadwallet replenishment.

As the previous weekend turned out to be a long one (because Monday, November 29 was declared a holiday), I wasn't able to go to the bank to deposit for loadwallet. So by Tuesday, I really have no more prepaid load to dispense. So, I called on the customer service to facilitate the crediting of the money right after I deposited it. The one who answered me was courteous and promised to take care of it. By early evening, I have loadwallet.

My next concern was about the online loading.

Normally, after I loaded someone's cellphone using Loadxtreme's online loading, I would immediately receive an e-mail confirmation of the transaction. On this occasion, I loaded 3 different cellphone nos. successively. My clients already paid me but I just want to make sure that they receive the load on time. Since there was no e-mail confirmation, I tried to log in into my account but the database could not be accessed.

I called LoadXtreme®'s customer service hotline 311 - 3000 once more.

This time there was something new in the recording. It indicated a number corresponding to the order in which my call will be accommodated. I was the 8th caller. Surprisingly, I have a lot of patience to wait until it was my turn. I customer services representative revealed that there was indeed some technical problem and the confirmation/non-cofirmation of the transactions I am inquiring about will only be known when the problem is resolved.

Anyway, the database was restored not so long after and all is good.

Smart's MEGA LAHATXT 20 Maybe A Little Too Much For CP Users Like Me

Smart's MEGA LAHATXT 20 was one of the many ads shown over the telecast of Pacquiao's demolition of Margarito.

The service allows smart subscribers 250 text messages to ALL mobile networks for only P20 prepaid cellphone load.

To avail of this prepaid service, Smart subscribers need only text 20 and send it to 2266.

I'm guessing once availed the service is for one day or 24 hours. The ad was short and there was no mention of maintaining load balance. A quick search on Smart's homepage revealed no additional information.

I can't imagine myself being able to send that much no. of text messages/SMS in a day unless I am broadcasting an event for an org I'm a member of.

Anyway, for me to take advantage of Smart's MEGA LAHATXT 20, I need to send at least 15 text messages every hour for the succeeding 16 hours. I came up with 16 hours considering 8 hours of sleep.

I guess for the texting generation youth of today Smart's MEGA LAHATXT 20 isn't that hard enough to consume in a day.

SmartPhone Head-to-Head Sale: Nokia C6 vs LG Optimus One

Yugatech announced two smartphone sale that will be clashing head on tomorrow, November 13, 2010.

Nokia C6 for only Php 6, 490 vs. LG Optimus One for Php 6,495.

Limited sale on selected stores of the respective cellphone makers at same mall venues.

Nokia Philippines will be offering Nokia C6 on limited sale, 60% off tomorrow from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Nokia Stores in SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Cebu and Gaisano Davo City.

On the same day, LG Philippines would be offering their LG Optimus One Android phone at 50% between 2:00 - 3:00 pm at LG Stores in SM Megamall, SM North Edsa Annex, SM Cebu and Gaisano Davao.

Which one will you pick? Nokia C6 or LG Optimus One?

I don't have the money and I have no compelling reason to get either unit. However, if both units were offered free, I will surely opt for the Nokia C6.

Yugatech has a better idea. Buy both units and sell the one you don't like at a profit.

Early this morning, I saw Red Mobile's UNLITEXT COMBO Ad on Inquirer Libre.

I seldom see their ads but there maybe some readers of this blog who uses Red mobile sims.

For only P10, Red Mobile subscribers can enjoy:

unlimited texts/SMS to fellow Red Mobile Subs
10 minutes call to Smart Subs
20 texts to ALL networks.

This service can be availed by sending/texting COMBO10 to 9949. This service also has a P20 version.

I'm not sure but I feel that Red Mobile didn't really left off. In fact, I do not personally know anyone who uses a Red mobile sim. Or maybe my colleagues are just the low-priced-cellphone-kind. LOL! Just joking. Initially it was available only for 3G handsets which is pricier than ordinary cellphone. Maybe this is not so anymore.

Anyway, this combo cellphone products is now common to all networks. I guess Sun Cellular is pioneer with these kind of cellphone services.

Globe's Mobile SMS/Text Messaging Advertising Platform

Globe has recently launched its mobile advertising platform via SMS/Text messaging according to reports.

The good news is that it will be "opt in" which means we, the subscribers can choose which kind of ads will interest us.

SMS Ads or Text Spam

It was not stated however if this text/sms ads will be for postpaid or prepaid subscribers or both. As I understand it, Globe will send out text ads first with a instructions on how we can opt in or opt out. It sure is one big advertising segment to target given communication via SMS or text messaging is now an integral part of our Filipino lives.

The report also bared the initial partners of Globe's mobile advertising service thru text, namely; Unilever, McDonalds & HSBC. I would have to say that text ads about McDo's value meals is better compared to fliers, not to mention eco-friendly. Or maybe HSBC's text ads about credit cards with less interest and no annual membership fee forever. But I wouldn't be thrilled on the latest tooth whitening or hair formula from Unilever.

There are a lot of times when I received text spams like food catering and the like. With unlimited text services, any business can readily tapped the technology to send unsolicited advertisements via text. This was so prevalent in the last national election.

I wish Globe will do something to weed out unsolicited texts or text spams. Otherwise, we can clamor Manong Johnny again in the Senate if we aren't too happy about Globe's mobile advertising via sms/text platform.

This is a long running text scam. Do not waste your time calling. Never claim a prize for a raffle/contest you didn't voluntarily enter into. Most likely, you will be asked to purchase a number of phone cards and to send the pin codes before you can claim your prize. Remember, if there is some kind of payment to claim your winnings, it's 99% scam.

This Philippine Charity Foundation Text Scam have been all over the internet now. As far as I remember, I already received this kind of message four times. There are variations but basically the same. But the fact that I again received this kind of text scam means there are still unlawful people out there ready to victimize cellphone users.

Do not fall for this kind of scam via text/sms. First of all, you are unlikely to win if you do not enter into any raffle. Secondly, if only a number shows up in your inbox, it is more likely sent by a strangers. Beware of strangers promising prizes.

Scammers will offer cellphone units at very low prices.

After the victim pays and hands the money, scammers will switch the fake cellphones and gave it to the unsuspecting victims.

Cellphone buyers need to be wary of extremely low-priced cellphone units and double check if they really have the real cellphone units that they paid for before leaving the cellphone store's premises. SUPERSURF50 - 1 Day Unlimited Internet Globe TATTOO Prepaid Broadband

A friend lent me her Globe Tattoo Prepaid Broadband plugit last Sunday wherein I tried loading SUPERSURF50.

SUPERSURF50 allows Globe Tattoo users to enjoy 24 hours or one day of unlimited broadband internet. All I did was typed in the keyword [SUPERSURF50] sent it to 8888, wait for the confirmation and enjoyed internet connection even though the confirmation message said that this service is good only until 8/31/2010.

Good thing I was able to load it immediately and connect immediately as well.

I was able to enjoy 24 hours or 1 day of unlimited internet connection. Although there are downtimes and several disconnections, I would say that it was good enough for my personal surfing and blogging. I was able to update 4 of my blogs. Factor in research and editing of my blog post. I would say the 50 pesos is worth it. It was just unfortunate that I loaded it late afternoon and did not connect while I was asleep.

I think there was some extension of this service but verify first to be sure. To enjoy one day unlimited internet connection using Globe Tattoo prepaid yourself, just use the Text tab of the Tattoo interface. Type SUPERSURF50 and then send it to 8888. A 5 peso load balance should be maintained to be able to use the service. A minimum of 55 peso worth of load is actually needed to enjoy this service.

It's just too bad that Loadxtreme does not offer a direct loading of this service.

I am not really a big fan of the MRT Newspaper Inquirer Libre. But some ad caught my eye. It was Cherry Mobile Q71 sale's full page ads.

The Cherry Mobile Q71 cellular phone is advertised as a chrome-finished QWERTY & TV phone is going on sale today for the 2nd time.

I do own a Cherry Mobile phone. While I am not fully satisfied with the expandability of its feature, I do enjoy the dual sim capability, FM radio & blue tooth features.

All I can advice is ask questions about where to go for warranty, where to go for repairs and where to buy accessories.

If budget and simple functionalities are your main considerations in buying a cellphone, then I think that Cherry Mobile phones can be good enough.

My Newest LoadXtreme Retailer

Surprise, surprise! I have a new loadxtreme retailer.

I was long resigned to the fact that I'm going to use LoadXtreme for personal prepaid load savings. That is, until the topic was brought up in a casual catching up with an old friend I've never seen for quite a while. He became interested because I was able to load his CP even though we are of different mobile networks. I gave him a free loadxtreme retailer account.

I explained that a LoadXtreme retailer account allows an existing SIM to dispense or sell prepaid load to all mobile network in the country either via the cellphone itself or thru the internet.

The main advantage of course is CONVENIENCE. A loadxtreme retailer can dispense prepaid load to his own CP or others at any given time/place as long as there is cellular phone (capable of sending at least 1 text/sms) or internet access to the loadxtreme online loading facility.

The savings that can be enjoyed is normally 10% and can increase depending on the number of CPs the retailer will be dispensing prepaid load to.

If done as a sideline, earnings are the basically the same as that of traditional retailers (except the normal text/sms charge when dispensing via CP).

As I have not done so for a long while, registering an account for him took a while but went smoothly nonetheless. I even sold him loadwallet worth 300. That he can utilize to load his own CP.

The real challenge, though, is replenishing the loadwallet. He can either go to the main office, the building beside Robinsons Galleria in Edsa Ortigas, to a loadXtreme dealer like me or to selected banks ( BPI, BDO ). But his office is near a lot of banks and he enjoys internet connection at work and at home. All he needs is just some little time & effort to replenish his loadwallet.

I hope he continues to enjoy the prepaid load savings just like me.

Chikka, the leading free text/SMS from PC to cellular phone provider, is now offering reply rates of P 1.00 for messages sent between 11:00 pm to 9 am.

Chikka allows anyone to register their cellular phone number and send free text/messages to selected countries. Members can send the message via their browser or download the Chikka Messenger to their desktop.

I believe they get their profit when the recipient replies back directly to the Chikka account. In our country, the charge was P 2.50 per replied sent.

I just recently found out that Chikka now offers off-peak rates. Replies will be charged only P 1.00 peso per reply when sent from 11:00 pm to 9 am.

This is cool news for us Filipinos and night crawlers who have internet connection. We can text friends without being worried for them using up most of their prepaid cellphone loads/credit.

Being a free-hound myself, I have enjoyed sending free text messages via Chikka. I even have 3 accounts before.

I used Chikka to format a long message and see how it would look. I texted the message to my own cellular phone. The message appeared fine. It is then that I received the notification about off-peak rates from Chikka.

SMART *767 Emergency Load worked For Me

This is for the anonymous commenter in my previous post about Smart's *767 Emergency Load service.

As I am maintaining a Smart SIM but rarely reloads it with previous credits, I decided to try out the service myself. Sorry, SMART. I will reload soon. Promise. LOL!

I just dialled *767. I just heard a beep sound on the other end. Some 3 seconds later, I received the following confirmation text/SMS message.

You have received 4 Smart-to-Smart/TNT Texts valid for 1 day. P4 will be deducted upon your next top-up. Thank you. Ref:283293492447.

So, Yes! The service really works. I just thought that a voice confirmation message from SMART about the service would be good along with the confirmation message.

Again, to the anonymous commenter, the service works. While I hope you would not need emergency load, I sure also hope that in the time that you do, you can avail of the service.

Smart did an ingenious way of maximizing social network and mobile service. To avail of the service, you will be required to register your Smart CP number, and add Smart to your social media account.

I tried the ALLTxtComboPlus for my twitter account. As I understand it, I am given 10 times to post tweets via text and will receive 30 notifications when there are tweets from people I follow.

For me to send TWEETs, I must txt TW [tweet] & send it to 2526. To check my texts to twitter, I need to send ETXT to 2526. 1 Peso balance is needed.

Ordinary mobile phones can now be used for Social media just like smartphones. I think majority of Filipinos still uses ordinary mobile phones. And this service would be truly awesome if you can access all 3 or other social media accounts in one registration only.

But this is still a nice move from Smart. Globe, Sun are you reading this?

SMART *767 Emergency Load

My Yugatech subscription informed me of Smart *767 SOS promo. A surprise kind service from Smart Communications.

The promo provides Smart Subscribers an emergency 4 peso load the subsribers can use when they ran out of prepaid cellphone credits. Smart subs can avail of this service by dialing *767 on their cellphone. After which, they will receive 3 SMS load & a 1 peso call load. This 4 peso will be deducted on the subsriber's next purchase of Smart load.

However, this SMART *767 SOS Emergency load is only a promo until November 16

I do not understand the 1-peso call load yet. A quick look at Smart's website and search from the net revealed nothing. But I will update you on this once I get the correct info.

This is quite helpful indeed. Considering the prevalence of prepaid load retailers, there are still unfortunate cases when one runs out of prepaid credits. Thumbs up to Smart on this one.

I hope they make this a permanent service. To Smart subs, please use it for emergency purposes only so that Smart will not shelve the service. I am more of Globe subscriber even though I have a smart sim and uses a dual-sim phone. But I sure would welcome an emergency load for those times I might need it.

After discontinuing its IMMORTAL TXT service, Globe is offering this promo.

Pretty much not good enough if you ask me considering the free texts are only valid for a day.

I believe the free text to other networks is not that appetizing for Globe subscribers to load 100 pesos.

Unless for the given duration, they would need to text relatives and friends from other networks a lot.

I hope they can come up with better promo's soon.

Samsung Galaxy S of Officemate Alex

Officemate Alex recently got the Samsung Galaxy S thru Globe's recent offering. Globe offered Samsung Galaxy S free in a special promo for plan 2499 up until July 31st which Alex availed.

Now, this latest cellphone unit from Samsung is free, starting with post-paid plan 5000 from Globe.

Apologies to include post-paid plans here in my blog. But I was so amused with Alex' reaction upon receiving her unit today in our office.

As for Alex, she's busy unpacking her latest tech toy.

I was also curious about what the Super AMOLED feature was. The acronym stand for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. There is this nose-bleed of an explanation here. As far as I understand it, its main benefit is a brighter display of colors.

Globe IMMORTAL TXT Balance & Inquiry

Here's how I came to know about the IMMORTAL TXT balance and inquiry.

For some days now, I have been receiving the same reply from Globe, every time I inquire about my prepaid load balance. I theorized that recent typhoon Basyang had somehow damaged Globe' system. Nice! Free prepaid credits or so I thought.

Well, that is until GF Tintin taught me about the IMMORTAL TXT balance. She correctly pointed out that it was so because I am still enrolled at Globe's IMMORTAL service. And taught me to inquire first about my IMMORTAL balance.

Following her advice, I send IMMORTAL BAL to 8888.

Right after that, it became clear to me. There is no technical glitch on Globe's network. It was just me forgetting I availed of the service. The free text I accumulated by loading other Globe prepaid products had been increased by the IMMORTAL service.

And since, I am just texting most of the time, that explains why my overall prepaid balance remained unchanged.

Whoa! Thanks to tintin, my new expert on IMMORTAL. And it is me who maintains this blog? LOL!

For only 30 pesos a day, Red Mobile subsribers can make unlimited calls or send an unlimited number of SMS to Smart subscribers. Smart's facebook page states that as of the end of 2009 they have over 40 million subscribers - that includes Smart Buddy, Smart Gold, Talk N Text & Infinity Subscribers.

Such unlimited is really worth for this kind of coverage.

Look likes Red Mobile is really bent on proving their stronger unlimited tagline. This promo gives Red mobile subscribers to communicate with all the subscribers of their sister network. If Smart's facebook page is to be believed, thats over 40 million subscribers of Smart Buddy, Smart Gold & Talk 'N Text.

Red Mobile subscribers need just text UNLI30 to 9499.

I stumbled about this on Yugatech as I was looking for his report on Nokia's Dual Sim Phone. A quick check from the Red Mobile's website further revealed that this unlimited call & text promo runs from July 17, 2010 to January 16, 2011.

Also, Red Mobile's online load balance inquiry is cool. I wish we had that also for Globe subscribers.
